Bryophyte flora in upland forests at different successional stages and in the various strata of host trees in northeastern Pará, Brazil Acta Botanica
Tavares-Martins,Ana Cláudia Caldeira; Lisboa,Regina Célia Lobato; Costa,Denise Pinheiro da.
In the northeastern region of the Brazilian state of Pará, approximately 90% of the forested areas are secondary forests. Secondary forests are interesting areas for floristic studies aimed at determining the effects that clear-cutting has on bryophyte communities. The aim of this study was to compare upland forests at different successional stages and the various strata of host trees, in terms of the bryophyte species composition. Bryophyte specimens were collected between August 2005 and September 2006 from host trees in primary and secondary forests of different ages and of different heights, within the municipality of Capitão Poço, in the state of Pará. The vertical distribution of bryophytes was evaluated in 15 host trees within the primary forest. We...

Estimation of sediment production in oil palm expansion areas in the Amazon AGRIAMBI
Silva,Antonio K. L.; Sousa,Adriano M. L. de; Santos,Joyse T. S. dos; Villela,João M.; Martorano,Lucieta G.; Crestana,Silvio.
ABSTRACT Currently, an activity that has become strategic at a national level is the cultivation of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) in the northeast region of the Pará State, in eastern Brazilian Amazon. However, the impacts of this crop expansion on the hydro-sedimentological cycle are still unknown. Therefore, this study estimated the impacts of oil palm crop expansion on sediment production in a sub-basin under consolidated use of this crop. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model was applied in the Mariquita sub-basin, calibrated by the flow regionalization technique, using data measured in the field with a current meter. Simulation results indicated an increase in sediment production between the years 2008 and 2013, which can be attributed to the...

Productivity and nutrition of fertigated açaí palms according to boron fertilization Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Lindolfo,Marcelo Morita; Matos,Gilson Sérgio Bastos de; Pereira,Wendel Valter da Silveira; Fernandes,Antonio Rodrigues.
Abstract Due to the increasing national and international demand, the cultivation of açaí palm trees (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) has expanded to upland areas in Brazil. Most of these areas present low natural soil fertility, in which boron (B) is one of the most limiting nutrients. This study aimed to evaluate the productivity of fresh fruits of fertigated açaí trees submitted to doses of B. The study was carried out in Tomé-Açu, northeastern Pará, Brazil. The experimental design consisted of randomized blocks with four treatments: control and addition of 20, 40 and 60 g of B clump-1. After 17 months, bunches of fresh fruits were collected and the production per hectare was estimated. An economic analysis was carried out considering the costs of...
